If I compare Dhoni and Ponting. My vote goes to Dhoni I have reason when Ponting starting playing in cricket as captain that time Australia was best team in world. Look the beating unit of Australian team: Openers are Adam Gilchrist and Matthew Hayden those are attacking player and one of the best player of that time then Ponting was come you know very well he is great batsman after that in middle order their lots of great batsman like Andrew Symonds, Michael Clarke, Michael Hussey, and other are also there. After that even some day batsman not done his work then bowlers are: Brett Lee, Glenn Mcgrath, Shane Warne, Steve Waugh, Nathan Bracken and others are. So pressure on Ponting was less if we compare with Dhoni. Even between the 2004 to 2011 is golden era for Australian cricket. Ponting led Australian team in three ICC world cup and they won two times. Ponting is in list of top 5 highest run scorer in international. If we saw the record then he is most successful captain in cricket history.

And if I talk about Dhoni, he made his debut in 2004 and appointed as captain in 2007. In first year of captaincy Dhoni won the ICC T20 world cup 2007. And in 2011 Dhoni also won ICC world cup by defeat the Australia in semifinal match and Sir Lanka in Final. When Dhoni appointed as Indian captain then Indian batting is strong: Rhaul Dravid, Yuvraj Singh, Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly, Virender Sehwag and others  India have good batting unit but bowling unit: Ajit Agarkar, Zaheer Khan, Anil Kumble, Harbhajan Singh and others.
